Barkingside tube station

Barkingside tube station is a London Underground station on the Central Line, in Travelcard Zone 5. It is on the eastern edge of Barkingside in the London Borough of Redbridge, at the end of a cul-de-sac called Station Road. The station is above ground and had two platforms – northbound and southbound.

The station originally opened on 1 May 1903, as part of a Great Eastern Railway (GER) branch line from Woodford to Ilford via Hainault.

This “loop” line, designed to stimulate suburban growth had a chequered career and Barkingside station was closed to passenger traffic, due to World War 1 economies, from 22 May 1916 until 30 June 1919. In 1923 the GER was absorbed by the London & North Eastern Railway.
